Singers such as Harry Connick Jr, Grace Knight, Vince Jones and Natalie Cole
have reintroduced the great music of this era with as much energy as performers of popular music.
Now
KAYE PAYNE, the most talked about Jazz/Blues singer in Tasmania today, is no overnight wonder.
It all started with singalongs at home and a television show at the age of nine.
From there Kaye dabbled in just about all the popular music styles, appearing in Brisbane and Sydney floor shows and with various rock and country bands then eventually following her passion, Jazz.
While on the cabaret scene Kaye toured with people like Chubby Checker, Des O’Conner, The Ink Spots and the Shadows.
Kaye’s influences are great’s like Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland and Bette Midler. Kaye features the music from before the 1950’s. She excels at ballads and has been classed as a “torch singer” by the Tasmanian media.
Kaye is known throughout Tasmania and the mainland for her pure voice, stage presence and her work with the arts industry. Jazz is her first love but she cannot resist the urge to perform all types of music when the opportunity arises.
TRIO – QUARTET – QUINTET
A fabulous combination of Derek Grice on reeds, Randal Muir on Keys/bass, Stephen Marskell on drums, and the creative expressive vocals of Kaye Payne give this performance a touch of sophistication.
Presidential Suite has been together in various forms for several years; this group of musicians blend and compliment each other to give you the ultimate in classic mainstream jazz.
Randal Muir. Randall is well known for his prowess on the keys with piano, piano accordion and organ; and in this instance he will be playing piano and bass as well. Randall and Kaye started working as a duo over 20 years ago. He is a master at his craft.
Stephen Marskell. Steve has been playing for more years than he cares to remember. He is in demand with larger ensembles because of his ability to read and interpret with taste, and with smaller groups where a more discerning feel is required. Steve currently plays with many Jazz ensembles around Hobart and is also a part time percussion player with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.
Derek Grice. Derek is in high demand with all styles of music in Tasmania. Clarinet, Flute and Sax’s come alive with his expressive tone and phrasing. You don’t want to miss listening to the creative sounds from his instruments. Derek plays with bands that range from large to small including guest spots with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.
